Dual industrial expos to deepen Japan-Vietnam supply chain cooperation
On June 3 in Hanoi, a signing ceremony marked the strategic cooperation between RX Tradex Vietnam, JETRO Hanoi, and VIETRADE – the Ministry of Industry and Trade's trade promotion agency – to jointly organise the two exhibitions, set to take place from August 6–8 at the I.C.E Hanoi Exhibition Centre. The events will bring together more than 200 businesses from over 10 countries, drawing over 10,000 visitors.
According to Vu Ba Phu, director general of VIETRADE, despite progress in key sectors like textiles, electronics, and automobile assembly, Vietnam's supporting industries are currently meeting only around 10 per cent of domestic demand for components. "This remains a major challenge, especially given the billions of USD Vietnam spends annually on imported parts to sustain domestic production," he said.
To address this, Phu stressed the importance of digitalisation and green manufacturing, highlighting government efforts to connect Vietnamese enterprises with global supply chains and improve capacity through policy incentives, technical training, and partnership-building initiatives.
As part of these efforts, SIE 2025 will directly link 20 Japanese buyers with 20 carefully selected Vietnamese suppliers in industries such as precision engineering, industrial plastics, and electronic components. Meanwhile, VME 2025 will showcase advanced solutions across smart manufacturing, automation, metrology, and materials technology, aligning with Vietnam’s industrial upgrade ambitions.
Japan remains one of Vietnam’s top foreign investors, particularly in high-tech manufacturing. Haruhiko Ozasa, chief representative of JETRO Hanoi, cited the organisation's latest survey showing that 56.1 per cent of Japanese firms in Vietnam plan to expand their investments in the next 1-2 years, while 50.9 per cent aim to increase local procurement.
"This year’s exhibitions are designed to promote deep, targeted collaboration between global manufacturers and Vietnamese suppliers," said Dhamcharee Varaporn, managing director of RX Tradex Thailand and Vietnam. "Our goal is to support industry leaders in adapting to global trends like digitalisation and zero-emission manufacturing."
This year's exhibitions will focus on key solutions, including digital transformation, flexible automation, zero-emission manufacturing, and digital supply chains, all of which are critical to the future of Vietnam's manufacturing sector. The exhibitions will feature over 200 companies from more than 10 countries, including industrial powerhouses like Japan, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, Singapore, China, and Vietnam.
The event is expected to attract a diverse range of professional visitors from Vietnam's key sectors, including automotive, electronics, medical devices, mechanical engineering, textiles, and high technology.
In addition to the exhibition area, the event will feature a matching platform with accompanying activities, including factory visits, a zone for domestic and international buyers, a series of seminars on automation and innovative factory solutions, and an onsite matching system to help participants find suitable partners and products.
